PBA: Common grounds for the projects

During this session, the participants have been exploring different aspects of an international project with youth and debating about them. These are the conclusions of the different groups.

RULES FOR A YOUTH PROJECT:

  • No smoking
  • No alcohol during the activities
  • Respect others (no discrimination, be friendly, open mind, respect gender diversity…)
  • No drugs
  • Be on time
  • Participate in the activities
  • Always tell/inform the group leaders if you leave the group for some reason
  • Rules must be clear and explained well
  • Separate gender bedrooms
  • Respect hostel rules
  • Minors accompanied by adults all the time
  • Be responsible about the belongings of the others

PREPARATION OF AN INTERNATIONAL YOUTH ACTIVITY:

  • 1month in advance, organisations should communicate all the informations about logistics, food, changes, transport and tasks to be prepared by the different groups
  • participants should book their transports in advance and let the host know about arrivals and special needs (if any: allergies, intolerances, food diets…)
  • Documents: European Health Card (or insurance), permision from parents (for minors), ID + Passport (check the validity)
  • Preparation about the country that we will visit: about weather, cultural differences, etc.
  • If there are any additional things that participants need to bring, inform in advance.
  • Preparation of financial aspects (if we need to bring local currency or if we can exchange money there… if we need to spend some money on local transport on arrival…)
  • Join the whatsapp group or Facebook group or IG (if any)

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES IN A YOUTH PROJECT:

  • FOREIGN LANGUAGES AND LANGUAGE LITERACY COMPETENCES
    • Gaining expereiences of life listening to foreing languages and experiencing the culture.
    • Improving the speaking skills in foreign languages (English mainly)
    • Overcoming fear to speak foreign languages
    • Learning new vocabulary in other languages (English and other languages of the participants of the projects)
    • Being more open-minded and less shy to languages
    • Change of attitude towards foreign languages
  • SOCIAL, INTERPERSONAL AND CIVIC COMPETENCES
    • Networking and socialising
    • Improving soft skills, asertiveness, solidarity, tolerance, acceptance of differences, gaining self-confidence through experiences with new people
    • Getting a sense of appreciation of cultural diversity
    • Meeting new people and respecting diversity of participants

    • Networking, potential future partnerships and friendships
    • Turning ideas into action
    • Developing a project idea all phases
    • How to make a budget
    • How to make phone calls (international)

    • Money exchange currencies

Evaluation methods and activities for a YOUTH PROJECT

  • Short informal evaluation about daily activities
  • Main evaluation at the last day of the project through creative way (game or something similar)
  • Evaluate activities, organisation, food, venue, learning outcomes…
